This is just a sampling of the many soul-nourishing, community-building, justice-seeking things happening – mark your calendar, and see more on our Calendar.

Nourishing Spirit

  • Sunday, September 15th, with a hymn sing at 10:15am:  Wade in the Water: Ingathering and Water Ceremony Worship For All Ages: Bring some water to this service from wherever and however you have spent your summer days. Mark your calendars, bring a friend or neighbor, a treat to share at coffee hour, gather your small container of water, “literal or symbolic,” and come “Wade In the Water” with one another–we thrive when we support one another and journey alongside each other.
  • Sunday, September 22nd, Religious Education Classes will begin for children and youth.We’ll dedicate our RE teachers during the worship at 10:30am and then sing the children out to their classes.
  • Sunday, September 29thwe will send the Revs off on their 3 month Sabbatical!  (What? There’s a sabbatical?  Yes….read the Sabbatical brochure here)

Working for Justice

  • Black Citizenship in the Age of Jim Crow at the CT Historical Society with Race Matters, Saturday, September 14that 2pm, followed by a conversation Sunday, September 15thafter worship.  A group from USH plans to visit The Connecticut Historical Society (CHS) on September 14 for a guided tour of the exhibit “Black Citizenship in the Age of Jim Crow.” Contact Gloria Francesca Mengual  – gloriafmengual@gmail.com.
  • Climate Strike with Green Sanctuary, Friday, September 20 at 12pmat the Capitol building in Hartford. Our Green Sanctuary Team, along with many thousands of youth climate activists and allies across the globe are preparing for a week of Climate Action September 20-27 to grieve, protest, and demand that local, state, national, and international leaders take action on our climate. Our Green Sanctuary Team invites us to take part in the 8-day strike and specifically for kids and adults to come to the rally on Friday, September 20th.
  • We are considering how we can be of support to  immigrants who are at imminent risk of being deported despite having an active claim in immigration court. An information flier is forthcoming and we hope you will join us for one of several opportunities for the Congregation to ask questions and express opinions.   • Greater Hartford Interfaith Action Alliance (GHIAA) Founding Assembly will be Monday, October 28th at 6:15pmat Central Connecticut State University, Welte Auditorium.  For those interested in interfaith and multi-racial relationships, changing policy, and building power, this is for you! Building Community

  • Fall Path to Membership Class series is Sundays, October 6, November 3, and November 17 after the morning’s worship service (the class is from 12-1:30pm). Childcare is available. Contact Brian Harvey at harvey.b@comcast.net to sign up.
  • Meeting House Presents concert series kicks off on September 27th at 7:30pm.It’s a great night of music and fun that supports the Meeting House, nourishes your spirit, and buildscommunity!   • Disability Focused Connection Circle begins Saturday, September 28th from 10am-noon. This popular event is being offered again for a third year. As in the past, all of the discussions will begin with a reading based on an essay written by someone who has issues related to a disability, published in a recent series in The New York Times.
