About the Soloist…

Piano Soloist Benjamin Dix received a Bachelors degree in Instrumental Music Education from the Hartt College of Music where he graduated Magna Cum Laude, a Master’s Degree in Special Education from the University of Hartford and a Sixth Year Diploma in Educational Leadership at Southern Connecticut State University. Ben has appeared as a soloist on Public Access Television and has soloed at the Boston University Tanglewood Summer Institutes Young Artists Program, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, and the University of Hawaii in Honolulu. He performed at the 2019 Connecticut Virtuosi Summer Music Institute & Festival. He performed Dantes “Inferno” with the Capitol Symphonic Wind Ensemble. Ben was a finalist in the Itzhak Perlman National Instrumental Performance competition and placed second in the Hartford Symphony Young Artists Competition. He was also recognized by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. He has studied piano with Terry Peters, Jane Bradley, Luiz de moura Castro, Margreet Francis, and Gary Steigerwalt at Hartt. Ben has taught piano at Bethwood Suzuki School and was also a faculty member of the Neighborhood Music School. He produced CD’s of solo performances, “The Artist in Contemplation of His Works”, “Wayfaring”, and “Variations and Encores”. Ben served as an Assistant Principal at the Burns Academy of Latino Studies in Hartford, Connecticut as well as the Director of Student Personnel Services in the Salem and Hamden School District. He served as a Magnet School and Specialized Education Placement Coordinator with East Haven Public Schools. Ben is currently a Department Chair of Special Education with the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System.
