Monthly Gatherings

Our USH Book Club meets from 2:30 – 4 p.m. on the 2nd Thursday each month, either on Zoom or occasionally as a hybrid meeting. To discuss the book and related issues, please contact Ginny Allen. The Zoom link will be sent to you a day or two before the meeting. October 12, 2023:  “Ashes to Bhagsu” by Louise Harmon (a USH member)

First Tuesday Hangouts & Discussion — October 3, 10:30 a.m.

Each first Tuesday, from 10:30 to noon in the library (and on ZOOM), Rev. Bob will host a community chat where anyone can pop in. We’ll plan a provisional topic each month; however, you do not have to have any knowledge of – or even interest in! – that topic. It’s just to get the conversation rolling; we’ll talk about life, the universe, and whatever springs to mind.

October’s provisional topic is “Michael Servetus: Visionary Mystic or Cranky Nutcase?” Discussion is facilitated by Rev. Bob.

For the remainder of 2023:

  • Tuesday, November 7: “The Enneagram”
  • Tuesday, December 5: “What are your favorite winter holiday traditions?”

And, an invitation: if you have a favorite topic you can facilitate in 2024, please let Rev. Bob know!)

Disability Support Group — October 7

This group meets online on the first Saturday of each month at 10:30 a.m. The zoom link is sent a few days prior to the meeting. In this group, participants discuss the challenges of physical disability (chronic illness, chronic pain, impaired senses, impaired mobility) and emotional pain (loss, mental illness), and the stresses of caretaking a loved one. What is said in the group stays in the group. Email Gloria Bent for more information or call 860-904-7768.

Friday Pizza and Movie Night — October 13

An evening of conversation, pizza, a movie, and more conversation (about the movie). To introduce the 2023/24 series we have a film (to be announced) recommended by the USH Social Justice council, with post-discussion facilitated by Gloria Mengual. Sign up at Coffee Hour, at the Caring Network table. $15* covers pizza, salad, dessert, non-alcoholic beverages. Feel free to bring your own beer or wine, if that’s your preference.

*or $5/slice, for the light eaters

Tuesday, at NOON in Fellowship Hall. Please brown-bag your own lunch and beverage… you’ll ensure having something you enjoy! Enjoy convivial conversation over lunch with friends. Please contact janicecnewton@gmail.com to sign up so we can arrange enough places at the table.

Saturday Sing-Along – October 21 2:00 p.m.

Join us at the next Meeting House Sing-Along. Song sheets and some loaner copies of Rise Up Singing or Rise Again are available. Note: we’ve moved to the 3rd Saturday, effective this month!
